Understanding where life, water and rocks meet:
from the tops of tree canopies down to fresh bedrock

Welcome! The Watershed Ecology and Hydrology Lab at the University of Pittsburgh is led by Dr. Amanda Donaldson. Our research focuses on how water is stored and moves through hilly terrian. We are interested in how ecosystems will respond to rapid climate shifts and disturbances to identify which landscapes are most vulnerable and why. To work across disciplines (e.g., geology, geochemistry, ecology, hydrology) we employ a suite of field, modeling, and laboratory approaches in a collaborative environment. Through science we tell stories about the natural world and value science communication through publications, media, art, and shared experience. Thanks for being here.
